By sharing their expertise, the RMS Theme 1 sub-group will advance men’s mental health inequities work with a suite of tailored suicide prevention programs.
Theme 1 is co-led by Dr. Darroch whose work focuses on the mental health of Indigenous fathers in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and Dr. Mootz who is engaging Mozambique-based men in public mental health care and couple-dyad treatment of intimate partner violence. Drs. Darroch and Mootz will mentor early career researcher Dr. McKenzie who is addressing mental health inequities in New Zealand-based men (including Maori and sexual minority men), PhD Candidate Turner’s (PhD supervisory committee member Dr. Oliffe) study of emotional distress and suicide in Alaskan-based In͂upiat men, PhD Candidate Goodyear’s (PhD supervisory committee member Dr. Oliffe) community-based study with homeless 2SLGBTQ+ youth who use drugs and PhD student Calvin Fernandez’s (PhD co-supervisor Dr. Oliffe) study of sexual and gender minority men’s sexual and mental health.
